These are just a few of the words used to describe our featured harpist - Dan Levitan!

Born and educated in Philadelphia. He received two degrees from Temple University (both magna cum laude) - Bachelor of Music Performance and Music Education. He also received “The Most Promising Musician” award at graduation.

Dan has also studied with Margarita Montanaro, Associate Principal harpist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, internationally acclaimed harpist Susann McDonald and Susanna Mildonian, and well- known Bay Area harpist Anne Adams, Marcella DeCray, and Phyllis Schlomovitz.

Today, Dan Levitan is the Principal Harpist for the San Jose Symphony Orchestra, Marin Symphony Orchestra, and the Fremont-Newark Philharmonic. He is the consummate professional, having also been a member of the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.

His credentials, his honors are impressive: Dan was a semifinalist in the prestigious 10th International Harp Competition in Israel, Dan also won first prize in the Trenton Symphony Harp Competition, the San Jose Music Study Club Competition, and the Bay Area Inez Stafford Harp Competition.

Dan has explored the extensive harp solo and chamber music repertoire and is in demand for his expertise as a fine collaborator, arranger, and composer. He plays numerous chamber music concerts each year with flute, violin, strings, percussion, and other instrumental combinations.

Dan’s first solo CD entitled “10th Anniversary Concert” was released in January of 1996. He is also featured on two commercial cassettes, “Shades of Love,” with flute and voice, and “Moonlight,” a selection of melodies featuring both solo harp and flute with harp. Dan’s recording credits also include “The Debussy Trio for flute, viola, and harp” and numerous T.V. and film recordings.

Dan Levitan plays harp at numerous events each year. He performs throughout the Bay Area at Weddings, Corporate functions, and many other special events.

Dan always has an immediate rapport with his audience and develops a closeness unique to his personality. He is comfortable talking to his listeners about the music he performs as well as encouraging audience participation. He relates to all ages, backgrounds, and those familiar or not familiar with the classics or contemporary favorites.
